Appearances can be deceiving and some of the cuddliest-looking animals are also the most deadly.
The little ball of fluff above is a Norwegian Lemming. When confronted by large predators these rodents do not back down. Instead they emit loud screams and lunge at their opponent, biting with their sharp teeth. They have been known to take on cats, birds of prey and even large dogs like bullmastiffs.
When threatened the docile-looking slow loris raises its arms above its head, bringing a gland around its elbow close to its mouth. Oil secreted from the gland mixes with saliva creating a strong venom which it then smears onto the top of its head, making it a toxic morsel for any predator.
