Residents of the town of Onoway, Alberta were surprised to find Pepto-Bismol coloured water flowing from their taps on Monday. Local officials said an open valve allowed potassium permanganate, used in normal treatment processes to help remove iron and manganese, to get into the sump reservoir. Some of the chemical made it into the distribution system but residents were told there was no risk. I don't think I'd want to drink it.
