The Emperor of Time is a film, part fiction and part nonfiction, about the life of Edward Muybridge, an English photographer important for his pioneering work in photographic studies of motion. It is told from the point of view of his abandoned son and viewed entirely through a nineteenth century early cinema contraption called a mutoscope, invented by animation pioneer Winsor McCay.
