Medical Pop-Up Book From the 17th Century

This German translation of Johann Remmelin’s 1613 work Captoptrum Microcosmicumis contains  images that detail the layers of the human body. These pop-up books of the past were created for adults and were called "mechanical books" because of their moving parts.

Librarians at Columbia University’s Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library have  scanned and digitized all 120 flaps in the book and it is now available online.
