When Life Hands You Rotten Fruit Make Fruitleather

The Market at the Binnenrotte, Blaak is the biggest outside market in the Netherlands and each market day it produces about 3500 kg of fruit and vegetable waste.

A collective of designers, currently studying at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam came up with an idea for their individual graduation projects that deals with the issue of food waste. The answer is fruit leather. The team is testing the material's strength, waterproof ability and how to make it as durable as possible. 

They have made a bag (above) as a visual to show that products can be made out of surplus fruit, but it is the material itself that they produce.
