First Color Photographs of China

These images were taken in 1912 by the millionaire French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn as part of his vast project, The Archives of the Planet, which aimed to create a colour photographic record of the peoples of the world. Spanning 22 years, it resulted in a collection of 72,000 colour photographs and 183,000 meters of film.

Some of these pictures can be seen in his book “The Wonderful World of Albert Kahn”.
