In the 1950s through 1970s John Calhoun created "mouse utopias" and studied the effects of
population density on behaviour. What looked like mouse paradises at first quickly spiraled into out-of-control overcrowding, eventual population collapse and seemingly sinister behavior patterns.
These experiments were interpreted as evidence of what could happen to humans in an overpopulated world.
