A Newspaper Written by Indian Street Children for Street Children

Balaknama is a quarterly publication backed by the Indian non-profit organisation Chetna that is written and run by children living in New Delhi’s slums. With a readership in the tens of thousands, the newspaper is being hailed as one of the most impressive in the world. Some reports focus on good deeds that street kids have done, while other stories are more hard-hitting, reflecting the tough lives that Balaknama’s contributors live. Topics tackled in the past include child marriage, police brutality, and abuse.
