This light bulb has been shining for 113 years

A  60 watt, handblown lightbulb made by Shelby Electric Company in 1901 has been burning continuously over a century at the fire station in Livermore, California.

It nearest competitor is the Palace Bulb, which is 106 years old and now resides at the Stockyards Museum in Fortworth, Texas in the US.

  1. It does it by not emitting much light. If you buy a 240 volt bulb in the uk, and stick it in a 110 volt fitting over here it will pretty much last forever. You won't though, you'll trip over something unseen in the gloom, and perish!

  2. It's been years since I've changed a bulb in my house. Not anywhere near 113 years though.
