HitchBOT Update

I continue to be fascinated by HitchBot's cross Canada hitchhiking adventure. It spent this leg of the trip taking part in a Pow Wow with the Wikwemikong First Nation on Manitoulin Island and was given the Anishinaabe name Biiaabkookwe (Iron Woman) in honour of its presence at the Pow Wow.

While in Hamilton, Ontario Hitchbot mentioned that it doesn’t have any pets but hopes to have a dog some day so a group took the robot to Walmart, strapped  it in a shopping cart and bought it a stuffed puppy. Developer Colin Gagich says:
“That to me is unbelievable that a robot said, ‘I want a dog some day and I can’t take care of it but maybe you can show me how,’ and someone actually listened.”
