Chinook, a variant of Fohn wind, it may refer to the canadian one, but it's a term oft used outside of canada, and let's not also forget the military helicopter so named... deke, eh, housecoat, kerfuffle, kilick,knapsack, lumber-jacket, washroom, zed. Shinny, I'm willing to bet, got its name from the Irish hockey-like game of Shinty.
The others, I grant you, are not in general use in my part of the world.
