Frank Lloyd Wright Gas Station Finally Finished After 87 Years

In 1927, acclaimed architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed a gas station for Buffalo, New York but it was never built. Now, almost 90 years later, the structure has finally been completed inside the lobby of The Pierce-Arrow Automobile Museum from plans acquired from the Wright Foundation.

Wright hoped that customers would enjoy spending time at the service station while their cars were being tended to, so he designed an observation room on the second floor with posh restrooms and even a fireplace, all meant to keep the experience elegant.

I think I'll shuffle down the Niagara Parkway to Buffalo to take a look at it.

  1. And the gas will have no ethanol, be full of good old tetraethyl lead, and cost about ten cents a gallon.
And there'll be a smiling guy who'll clean your windows and check your oil....

  2. I remember the days of cheap leaded fuel but it's hard to imagine an elegant gas station.
