The raven is sometimes known as “the wolf-bird.” In Norse folklore the God Odin is often represented sitting on his throne, flanked by wolves and ravens. Ravens scavenge at wolf kills and also lead wolves to carcasses because they rely on the wolves to open the carcass so they can get at the meat. Both wolves and ravens have the ability to form social attachments and they seem to have evolved over many years to form these attachments with each other, to both species’ benefit.
