Braising In the Ammo Box at Firehouse 8

Ten years ago, firefighter Kevin Kennedy found an abandoned ammo box in a cupboard at Firehouse 8 in Oakland, California. Now he uses it every week, during his month-long cooking stints (the guys take turns). “It’s an amazing pan,” Kennedy says. “You just put stuff in, close the lid, and everything turns out great.”

“Food that was cooked in there 30 years ago imparted its flavor to that box,” Kennedy says, not long before the dinner bell rings.
I want one of these magic pans. I wonder if Mr. Nag has one at his firehall.

  1. Mr. Nag tells me that the ammo box at his firehall is made of wood. I advised him not to try this.
