The Eixample area of Barcelona was planned in the late 1800s as a grid with squares and long avenues. The design by Catalan Ildefons Cerdà is a masterpiece of urban planning taking sunlight, ventilation and green, public spaces into consideration. It is amazing when viewed from above.
