The Canine Casualties of the Titanic Disaster

I can't believe I never thought about the dogs that might have travelled on the doomed ocean liner.


There were 12 canines on the doomed ocean liner, three of which survived. Those include a baby Pomeranian, Lady, whose owner, Margaret Hays of New York City, wrapped her in a blanket and carried her into a lifeboat.The other two dogs to survive were also small, pedigreed pooches who travelled in their owners’ cabins.
Sadly several dogs perished in the disaster. A great dane was deemed too large to board the rescue ship and its owner, Ann Elizabeth Isham, returned to the ship's kennel. Several days later her body was found clutching her dear dog.
