The Burning House Project

The Burning House Project asks which of your belongings you would take with you as you flee your burning house.
OH NOA feels compelled to comment on the choices people have made. The objects below get a thumbs up.

But Noa calls bullshit on the choices below:

It's worth a look. Thanks Bruce!

  1. My house burned to the ground when I was a teenager. My Mom grabbed her purse, which was smart, as it had all the car keys in it. Of all the things we lost, the only thing I still regret is the photographs. So I give away copies of photographs.

We have a fire plan. The rules are to let the cats and dog fend for themselves. I have too many kids to have them worrying about animals, although I cherish the animals personally. I have a file box with irreplaceable documents, like copies of sealed adoptions and foreign documents, ready to grab in a moment. As long as the family is out, I can deal with losing anything else.

  2. My husband is a firefighter but we don't have a fire plan. Your response gave me food for thought. I'd definitely want to grab the family photos but I could part with anything that's insurable. There are times when I would be grateful to rid myself of the 25 years of detritus that I'm drowning in.
