Paris under Snow at Canada's National Gallery

I loved this painting of Notre Dame on a dull, snowy day by Fauvist Albert Marquet. His brushwork is so accomplished!

Marquet has captured the gloomy atmosphere of a dull winter day with sombre colours painted in muted tones. Note how the human beings and horses are represented by simple and gestural brushstrokes to convey form and movement.

  1. Funny I hate winter but love paintings/prints of them.
I have a favourite print in the laundry room that I bought years ago in Montreal.

I think I love it because of the way the sun is shining.

  2. Marquet's piece is interesting because it looks very different at a distance than it does close up. It's very evocative.
    Love your print.
