I'm in mourning

My favourite sharp tongued curmudgeon, Blanche Hunt, has died after her spleen ruptured in a fall in October. Coronation Street won't be the same without her.
"Maggie Jones will be remembered for many years to come for her role as the sharp-tongued battle-axe Blanche Hunt in Coronation Street.

The 75-year-old won several comedy awards for her portrayal of Deirdre Barlow's mother in the soap, with her withering put-downs and cutting one-liners.

Jones was born in London on June 21, 1934 and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

The much-loved actress made her Coronation Street debut in the 1960s as a policewoman and bosses soon spotted her potential, giving her another guest appearance as a shoplifter.

She landed the role as the straight-talking Blanche in August 1974, and a Coronation Street legend was born."More

  1. I can't believe it. I thought she would outlive Deidre and Ken and end up marrying Steve and working in the pub.
    She will be missed.

  2. I'm not good with change; I still miss the Baldwins.
