LOVE ME

Maisie Crow's photos of Autumn, a 17 year old who lives with her parents and two siblings in Southeast Ohio. It's heartwrenching.

Autumn, 17, is dealing with the emotional toll of growing up in poverty. As she comes of age in this environment, Autumn struggles to find her way.

Autumn and her mother smoke cigarettes in front of the trailer they keep next to their home. Autumn's parents also grew up poor.

Autumn lies in her father's lap. She often goes to him for comfort when she is upset.

What happened to the provincial poverty agenda?

I had such hopes for bold action.

Beyond the introduction of the Ontario Child Benefit (which I'm not sure really helps those most in need) I haven't heard anything. I guess the economic crisis trumped helping the poor.

  2. Anything trumps helping the poor. It was a tough fight to stop the Ontario government from deducting the OCB from social assistance payments.
