An Outpost in Afghanistan’s Borderland
Once a hunting lodge for Afghanistan's last king, a small stone castle has been home for a year to an American cavalry troop, an Afghan infantry company, a Navy corpsman and two American marines. The base, near Afghanistan's border with Pakistan, is intended to draw Taliban attacks away from more populated regions.
