On This Day

The Swedish master of social photography, Christer Strömholm, took haunting pictures of the victims of the atomic bomb that killed an estimated 90,000-146,000 people in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. This close-up of a blind girl with scars on her face is perhaps the best known and most disturbing of the series.
