Dumbest thing I've ever heard and there are a lot of dumb green ideas out there. Not only would the roof of an average supermarket not support the amount of produce it sells annually even in the best of climates, the cost of this would put the retail price of a head of lettuce at 4 times its present cost even as the cost of oil escalates through 1.50 a litre.
