What's most terrifying is that it's true, exaggerated as it seems.
And what really scares me is that girls all over talk just like this. Regional accents and manners of speech have given way to what I call GATS - Generic American Television Speak. Even women I know with advanced degrees talk like this. (not so extreme as here, but it's there) This is truly one of the uglier sides of globalization.
I didn't mean to scare you, John. I know exactly what you mean though. I work with a lot university students and almost all of them do that annoying up-speak, including one med student. Can you imagine having a doctor speak to you like that? Now I'm terrified.
