Seasteading

Seasteading is building politically independent cities that float on the ocean. Half the Earth’s surface is unclaimed by any government, so these would be start-up countries on the blue frontier. The Seasteading Institute has secured an agreement with French Polynesia to co-create a seazone with “a special government framework” for floating islands in the waters of a Tahitian lagoon.

Based on the foundational vision of The Seasteading Institute and DeltaSync, the video below shows what the infrastructure of sea-based civilization might look like in the near future:

I’m wary of this idea, like minded people building a self-governing enclave. It’s been proven many times if people are given their druthers, they want people like themselves around them. But of course that hinges on their view of themselves and others. If they achieve their goal their world becomes us and them. The next step, as history proves, is us versus them. Bad juju.
