'Sparkling Jewel' Beach Threatened

This beach, near the city of Vladivostok on Russia's Pacific coast, looks like it's made of jewels. It is actually created from bottles that were dumped there years ago and smoothed by nature.


A recent warning from the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) says the beach will vanish in about 20 years as the vivid glass remains are reduced to sand by abrasion. There is enough glass remaining for one generation - but later it will turn into a regular sand and pebbles bay.
