On March 5, 1963 the US Patent Office issued patent No. #3,079,728 to Arthur K. Melin and Richard Knerr for their Hula Hoop design. But Melin and Knerr actually invented it in 1958 when it became a North American sensation. Are any of you long enough in the tooth to remember the Hula Hoop Song by Teresa Brewer?
