When Vans Made Clown Shoes

California shoe maker Vans is best known for its trendy skateboarder shoes but I didn't know that they also made clown shoes for 14 years. The first shoes were produced for Squeaky the Clown in the late 60s. Squeaky appeared at instore promos and grand openings, making balloon animals.  In the 70s Vans began producing their low-top, super wide clown shoe called the flapper. They sold for $60 back then but a pair went up on Ebay last year for $1500!
