Phineas P. Gage, the 'American Crowbar Case'

Phineas P. Gage was an affable American railroad construction foreman. One day a 13-pound tamping iron was blown through his left cheekbone, exiting the top of his head and taking  much of his frontal lobe with it. Improbably he survived but Gage was no longer Gage.
