Octopus Tomato Trees

These “octopus tomato trees” are hybrids that grow from a single tomato vine but spread on a large trellis.Their crown grows to about 40-50 square meters and they yield tens of thousands of tomatoes every season. That's a lot of sauce, folks!

These heirloom tomato trees take 1.2 – 1.5 years to reach their full size and yield no fruit during the first 7 – 8 months. Once they reach maturity they produce on average 14,000 tomatoes. The Guinness World Record for the largest harvest from a single plant was set by one of the two octopus trees currently on exhibit at Epcot – 32,000 tomatoes with a total weight of 522 kg.

I would love to have one of these plants but in the Southern Ontario growing zone I'd have to build a huge greenhouse for it.
