The Pain of Insect Stings Ranked
The Schmidt sting pain index is a pain scale rating the relative pain caused by different hymenopteran stings. Entomologist Justin Schmidt (aka The King of Sting) has been voluntarily stung by insects over 1,000 times throughout the course of his career. Based on his research, he created a pain scale with 78 poetic, and sometimes humorous, descriptions for all varieties of ant, bee, and wasp stings.
