Toyota Launches A Wooden Car

Toyota will show the Sestina roadster concept at Design Week in Milan next week. Its main chassis and body parts are made from wood and the body consists of replaceable wooden panels.

The prickly castor oil tree makes up instrument panel and front seats and Japanese cypress is used for the steering wheel. Traditional Japanese joinery technique is used to join the exterior panels with the frame. No nails or screws are used; concave and convex shapes hold the pieces together.
