The Booming Ice Chasm of The Canadian Rockies

Tucked behind a rocky ledge 700 vertical metres up the side of a mountain, Booming Ice Chasm is almost impossible to find unless you know what you’re looking for. It is a “cold-trap” cave in the Crowsnest Pass area in the Alberta Rockies. Cool air sinks to the bottom and gets trapped there, making it an icebox year-round. When rocks tumble down and crash to the cave floor, 140 meters below, they cause booming echoes.
