Exploring the Work of Paul Kane With Infrared Reflectography

The First Brush: Paul Kane and Infrared Reflectography is an exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum that features paintings by Canadian painter Paul Kane (1810–1871) that rotate in groups of five every few months. The exhibition presents Kane’s oil paintings along with images of underdrawings acquired through infrared reflectography, and the original sketches Kane made while travelling across Canada in the 1840s.



Also on display is Kane's paintbox (below) which he took with him on his travels. The box is on special loan to the ROM from the National Gallery of Canada.
