Elderly German Peasant Women In Traditional Dress

For Village Queens, German photographer Eric Schuett has photographed the last remaining women living in rural communities throughout Germany and into Alsace who still dress in the traditional costumes once worn by the village population.

Schuett was fascinated by history. He came upon Maria Anna Griessbaum a nonagenarian living in the Black Forest while he was searching for traditional crafts in remote areas. He decided to photograph these elderly women to capture images of an era that would otherwise die along with them.
